Motivational Monday: 5 Ways to Create Your Own Happiness

“Don’t worry, be happy” they say.  But how?

1. Start a NEW hobby

Sometimes we get stuck in the cycle that is life, repeating actions for basic survival and not truly living for ourselves.  Start a new hobby. If you change your daily pattern, perhaps you will discover a new talent, new friends, or a new passion.  The possibilities are endless when you allow yourself the chance to explore everything life has to offer.

2. Express what holds you back and break free from it

Attachments– they hold you back.  Typically  the sadness we experience result from how we hold on to the memories that bring us pain.  Start freeing yourself from these bad moments and start living in the present.  Talk about them, write about them, sing about them but above all things, do not live by them.  Stop letting the bad times lead your life. Instead, allow your expression and freedom of these times to liberate you and define your life.

3. Share in the happiness of others

If you can be happy for others, then why not be happy for yourself?  If you cannot bring yourself to be content for the happiness of others, try, try really hard.  Happiness spreads when shared.  A simple meaningful “congratulations” to a newly hired friend, for example, is a positive action that can bring more positive results into your own life.  When you are purely happy for others, they will, in one way or another, be purely happy for you.  The more light you surround yourself with, the happier you will be.  Think of happiness as a catalyst for more happiness.

4. Love yourself

One important part to creating your own happiness is loving yourself.  Know that you are unique and deserving of love.  Transform this thought into action and show your self-appreciation with the things that make you happy.  Splurge!  Take yourself on that much-needed trip, buy that shirt you’ve been eyeing for the past month, or simply take a break from your busy schedule to insert “me” time.  Love yourself.  Be happier.

5. SMILE

Yes, it may sound so cliché, but just the action of smiling (fake it if you have to) can bring happy thoughts.  Of course, it is easier if you have a purpose to smile.  So find a reason to be happy today and express it with a smile.  And do you believe that smiles contagious?  Try it.  You may not even have to think about it. Maybe you will effortlessly smile today just as a stranger will pass by and share a smile with you    🙂
